Life of an Artist
Life of an Artist
Welcome to my first Blog!
Hi there! My name is Sneha Gatne . This is my first blog. Currently I'm pursuing my engineering degree from D.Y. Patil College of Engineering. This blog marks my passion, a balanced life between two different worlds, my struggle to manage both my passion and engineering, how art keeps me grounded and embracing both artist and engineer within me.
1. The Artist Within: A Dream Born from the Heart
Art has always been my first love. From childhood doodles to serious painting sessions, it was always clear to me that my soul was deeply connected to creativity. Art provided an outlet for my emotions and a way to communicate things that words couldn't capture. But even though I adored art, the practical side of me couldn’t ignore the fact that pursuing a career in it didn’t always seem “stable” or secure.
As I explored my future, I found myself intrigued by engineering. The idea of creating functional, tangible solutions to real-world problems sparked something in me. But even as I chose to pursue engineering, my heart kept calling me back to the canvas. This is where my journey began—finding a way to balance both worlds.
2. Finding the Balance: A Life Between Two Worlds
Juggling an engineering degree with an artistic passion is not always easy. My days are often filled with complex equations, lab experiments, and assignments, leaving little time for the creative pursuits I hold dear.
Engineering teaches me structure, precision, and problem-solving skills—skills that translate into my art in new and unexpected ways. My art, on the other hand, keeps me grounded, reminding me of the importance of creativity, imagination, and vision in every project, whether it’s technical or artistic. These two pursuits aren’t as separate as they seem—they complement each other in ways I didn’t expect.
3. The Struggle: Time, Stress, and Self-Doubt
The biggest challenge I face is time. Between coursework, assignments, projects, and exams, there’s often little room left for painting or sketching. There are days when I feel like I’m losing touch with my artistic side, consumed by the demands of my engineering studies.
And then, there’s the constant self-doubt. Am I making the right choice? Should I be focusing entirely on one path instead of trying to juggle both? Sometimes, the pressure of keeping up with engineering coursework makes me question whether I should just “give up” on one of my passions.
But I’ve learned to embrace the struggle. The moments of doubt are part of the journey. I remind myself that both art and engineering are part of who I am, and that neither one should be sacrificed. Even if it’s only for an hour a day, I make time for my creativity, because it brings me peace and clarity. It keeps me whole.
4. How Art Keeps Me Grounded
When life as an engineering student becomes overwhelming, I often turn to my art as an escape. The act of painting or drawing allows me to disconnect from the pressures of exams and assignments, providing me with a mental reset. Even if I can’t dedicate hours to a piece, I take comfort in knowing that my creativity is always there, waiting for me when I need it most.
Art also helps me process the stress and anxiety that comes with the academic rigors of engineering. I’ve learned that creating something with my hands—whether it’s a quick sketch or a full-blown painting—brings me peace. It reminds me of the importance of balance: that work and play, logic and creativity, must coexist in harmony.
5. Embracing Both Paths: The Artist and Engineer Within Me
Being an artist pursuing an engineering degree isn’t easy. It requires constant balancing, time management, and determination. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. The two passions I have—art and engineering—are not opposing forces, but rather complementary aspects of who I am. Together, they allow me to see the world through different lenses, to innovate and imagine, and to create both beautiful and functional things.
If you’re an artist or a creative person considering a path in a technical field, my advice is simple: don’t be afraid to follow both passions. The journey might be harder, and the road may feel uncertain at times, but the rewards of blending creativity with logic are immeasurable. Both fields have so much to offer each other, and you’ll be amazed at the doors they can open when combined.
